January 3, 2008: Flaky….JUST flaky, man! |
|
I must admit—I was feeling very jealous. During my vigilant morning ritual of reading the news from Florida, I happened upon a story telling the world that the east coast of Central Florida was slated for snow flurries the next morning. “No way!” I thought. “I moved ALL THE WAY TO TENNESSEE, and they get SNOW in FLORIDA?!?” Yes, I felt that ol’ green-eyed monster creeping up into my consciousness. “ENOUGH!” I finally demanded of myself, trying to be happy for those who would experience such a rare treat. “Lord,” I pleaded, “Can we have some snow, too?”
No sooner had I uttered the words, than I walked out the office door, intent on retrieving my second cup of coffee. On my way to the house, I waived my hand in front of my face, trying to swat away the little bugs buzzing all around. I made a steaming cup of coffee and walked back outside. The bugs were still there. Then it dawned on me. Those weren’t little bugs at all—they were snowflakes! The little flurry continued on for about a half an hour, and then, as quickly as it came, it was gone.
Talk about quick turn-around time on answered prayers? That was one for the books. ;o)
That was yesterday.
This morning? Well, no snow. But, we did hit an all-time low for us Florida folks. 8 degrees. Yep, you read it right: E-I-G-H-T DEGREES!! Interestingly, it wasn’t nearly as uncomfortable as it was yesterday with the wind. I’ll take 8 degrees/no wind over 18 degrees/20 mph winds ANYDAY. |

March 8, 2008: Our ONCE-A-YEAR snow... |
|
It started innocently enough with a few flakes falling for about 30 minutes the other day. Ah, a foreshadowing of things to come…
This morning, we awoke to about four inches of the white stuff—enough to make beautiful pictures for this Florida girl. And, true to my nature, I donned my coat and rubber boots and went stomping off with camera in hand. Got some nice shots of the farm. It was a nice send off for Aaron—as he leaves today for his USCG assignment in Kodiak—ALASKA. Yep, he’d better get used to the cold. He’ll be intimately acquainted with it before his tour is over! |
